Description
When in a neighborhood so filled with teardown culture, MZA and the owners of this Oak Hill residence did something else: they refurbished with intention. The goal was to rethink the house's layout and appearance without over-building, keeping the structure but with a lighter, airier, and deeply personal touch. MZA installed skylights and vaulted ceilings to pour air and light into the tight footprint. Walls fell to attain kitchen, living, and dining area openness. The design was influenced by the clients' global travels to Mexico and Japan, where color, texture, and craft left their mark. Luxurious woodwork, handmade tile, and graphic pops like a candy-apple red phone niche and teal cabinet for the dining area imbue each room with personality. Outside, new patios, fruit trees, and a bioswale garden extend the home's story outdoors. In line with MZA and the client’s vision and mindset, the project was also featured at the 2023 Metro Nashville Preservation Awards.
