Meharry Medical College has broken ground on a Manuel Zeitlin Architects designed multi-building residential project that will accommodate students, faculty and staff.
Meharry Medical College Residential Complex provides market-rate, on-campus housing to Meharry Students and Medical Residents. The Complex’s two buildings densify their surrounding neighborhood and sit close to the street, creating an active, urban-scale streetscape that encourages students to walk to class. In their scale and materials, the Complex reflects its relationship to the existing Meharry Campus as well as Meharry’s commitment to modern design.
Each 4-story building contains 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, as well as social and study spaces, a fitness center, and several outdoor terraces with views of Downtown Nashville. The apartments feature modern kitchens, large windows, and balconies. Both sites have landscaped areas for recreation and relaxation, and the parking lot is finished with pavers, a sustainable strategy allowing water to drain more naturally. The development of the Complex has also led to major infrastructural improvements to the underserved neighborhood, providing the larger community with a increased level of public services.
