Description
MZA partnered with The Mainland Companies to convert Germantown's landmark Elliott School into 26 thoughtfully designed condominiums. Constructed in 1916 by noted architects Marr & Holman, the building remained vacant and unattended before being partially reused as offices. The question was how to make it livable for the 21st century without sacrificing its historic character. Working in close consultation with preservation agencies and the community, MZA restored original hardwoods, plaster, and masonry while making new additions unobtrusive. Most striking is the renaissance of the two-story auditorium, now occupied by three dramatic loft-style residences. Having survived a direct hit from the 2020 tornado, the building's resilience was matched only by the care that went into its restoration. The result is a flagship example of adaptive reuse that weds Germantown's heritage to modern living.
