Description
Mercury View was one of The Gulch's first redevelopment projects, Nashville's first mixed-use loft complex. The challenge for MZA was to redevelop a warehouse site into an active, multi-level destination with 32 condominiums, a 24-hour bakery, restaurants, a concert club, and an art gallery. The challenge was to integrate new construction with the grit and character of the original warehouse while introducing sustainability measures well ahead of their time. MZA's design pierced through the existing building to sustain a new residential superstructure above, using materials including exposed concrete, corrugated steel, and low-e green glass. Mercury View is now one of San Francisco's first projects to include bioswales and porous pavers, designed with the help of Hawkins Partners. What they received was a landmark, mixed-use complex that still hums with creative energy and environmental consciousness.
