Description

For two longtime friends who share homes, MZA designed this unique Nashville residence as a haven of comfort, privacy, and shared experience. The challenge was to preserve the site's existing stone walls and mature trees and to create individual personal spaces within an integrated home. MZA conceived of two distinct volumes, a primary house and separate guest suite, linked by a central outdoor deck greeting individuals the moment they pass through the front door. The arrangement is evocative of a Paris courtyard, and arrival is a party. A screened porch spans upstairs, connecting the main house to a private office, echoing the split below. Each decision respects the site but also invites connection and serenity. The home is both rooted and novel, intimate and adaptable, and ultimately very personal.
