Description
Turnip Truck's East Nashville location began with a parking lot and the vision of a neighborhood hub. MZA developed a sharp, 24,000-square-foot supermarket with high windows that pour natural light into the double-height market and offer inviting views in and out onto East Park and Woodland Street. The building materials - painted block and steel, fiber cement, and insulated metal panels - break down its mass and honor the neighborhood's industrial past. The deli, bakery, café, and grocery aisles fill the ground floor, and the mezzanine is used as both a dining and community space for events like wine tastings and cooking demonstrations. The building was thoughtfully future-proofed, with a rooftop café and hydroponic greenhouses planned for a third floor. Based on sustainability and designed to reach the street, the project helped to connect Five Points to downtown with taste and intent.
