Description
Westerly House amplifies Standard Assembly's sister hotel's creative energy to a whole new level with a twist: shared living areas and expansive coworking space. Situated between 8th Avenue and Wedgewood-Houston, the development has 242 dwelling units over a two-story podium. MZA, in association with EOA, designed the structure to highlight the industrial past of the district while incorporating higher level warmth using stucco, wood, and metal finishes. The double-height breezeway greets residents and visitors through a series of richly layered public spaces to a private central courtyard. Terrazzo floors, sweeping murals, and rich wood finishes within create a sophisticated but not pretentious environment. The challenge brought together the scale of a big multifamily complex with a sense of human-scale design. Westerly House accomplishes this by creating a seamless experience that compromises functionality, style, and community interaction.
